Signing in and your account

Signing in, or making an account

On the sign-in page, type your mobile number and tap Text me a code. We text you a 6-digit code. Type it in and tap Verify. If the number is already on a Gatherly account, you're signed in. If it isn't, this makes your account. There's no separate sign-up.

We can only text US and Canadian numbers for now, so the button stays greyed out for other numbers. Texting the code to you means you agree to get texts from Gatherly about your account and events. Message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP to any text to stop them.

If the code doesn't arrive

Wait for the countdown, then tap Resend code. If you typed a code that didn't match, tap Text me a new code. Typed the number wrong? Tap Wrong number? to go back and fix it. Each number can only get a few codes a day. Once they're used up, the page tells you what time you can try again, or you can sign in with email if your account has one. The limits are on Texts, email and your number.

Setting up a new account

After your first code, we ask two things.

Your name. It's how hosts and other guests know it's you, on event pages and guest lists. It's required, so Continue stays greyed out until you type one. You can change it later on your profile.

Your email, if you'd like. It's optional. We use it for your tickets, receipts, and updates when an event you're going to changes. If you host, it's also where payout and sales notices go. Tap Add email and we send a link to confirm it's yours, or tap Skip for now and add one later from your profile. You'll need a confirmed email before you can publish a paid event.

If you add one, the next screen points you to Notifications, where everything we send you by text and email lives. Resend the confirmation email sends the link again, and Take me to Gatherly carries on.

If you already had an account

Accounts made before we switched to phone sign-in are asked once to add a mobile number. Until you do, that step is the only page you can reach, apart from Help, our Terms and Privacy pages, and Sign out. Type your number, tap Text me a code, and type the code.

Then we ask Is this your name? We fill it in from your account. If you signed up with email, that's often just the start of your email address, so fix it to the name you want hosts and guests to see, and tap Looks good. We only ask this once.

If the number is already on another Gatherly account, you can move it to this one, use a different number, or sign out and use that account instead. What each choice does is on Texts, email and your number.

Signing in with email

If your account has an email, tap Sign in with email on the sign-in page. You can sign in with your password, tap Email me a sign-in link, or tap Forgot password? to reset it. Use my phone instead takes you back. Email can't make a new account: new accounts are made with a phone number.

After you ask for a sign-in link, the screen reads the same whether or not the address is on an account, so nobody can use it to find out who's on Gatherly. If the link doesn't arrive, check the address and tap Send it again.

If you sign in on a new device

When someone signs in with your number on a phone or computer your account hasn't used before, we email your confirmed address to let you know, with the time and the last four digits of the number. Phone companies sometimes give an old number to someone new, and this is how you'd find out. If it was you, ignore it. If it wasn't, sign in with your email and change your number on your profile, or reply to the email. If your account has no email, we can't send this, which is one more reason to add one.

Signing out

Tap Sign out on your You page, or on any of the add-your-phone screens.
